With the rapid development of global industrialization and urbanization, energy demand continues to grow. Faced with multiple pressures from the environment and economic development, governments around the world are advocating the concept of green and low-carbon sustainable development, and various industries are also seeking a green and sustainable development path of energy conservation and emission reduction. In recent years, with the vigorous development of the wireless LAN industry, the performance and power consumption of WLAN products have been significantly improved, and the green, energy-saving, and sustainable development of the WLAN industry is facing significant opportunities and challenges.
According to the website of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, by the end of 2023, the total number of fixed Internet broadband access users of three basic telecom enterprises had reached 636 million, with a net increase of 46.66 million in the whole year. According to incomplete statistics, the total energy consumption of all existing APs in the Chinese domestic market is close to 70% of the total energy consumption of 5G base stations by the end of 2022.
With the development of broadband networks, the number of fixed broadband users worldwide continues to grow. According to ABI Research analysis and prediction, the number of WLAN CPE installations worldwide will increase from 1.55 billion to 2.12 billion between 2023 and 2030. 802.11ax WLAN routers will gradually become popular, and the global average power consumption will also rise to a higher level year by year. High performance, low-power energy-saving WLAN devices are expected to become a new trend and strong competitive point in the development of the industry chain.
This project will focus on WLAN devices that support the IEEE 802.11ax protocol in home scenarios, taking into account the dual needs of energy conservation and user experience, with a particular emphasis on addressing energy conservation issues on the AP side in home user scenarios.
The project deliverables are "Technical Requirements for Power Consumption of WLAN Devices in Home Scenarios" and "Power Consumption Testing Specification for WLAN Devices in Home Scenarios".
The research scope of this project is WLAN devices that support IEEE 802.11ax protocol in home scenarios, including AP single devices, AC+AP multi devices, wireless gateway devices, Mesh networking devices, and FTTR networking devices.
